Phu Quoc Leads New Entrants in Traveloka’s Rankings, Ahead of London and Paris

17/10/2026

Travel platform Traveloka reports that Phu Quoc has outpaced growth benchmarks in all five Southeast Asian markets it tracks, describing the island as Vietnam’s “beach-and-island star”. Its integrated offering of resorts and entertainment, alongside infrastructure development ahead of APEC 2027, is adding to the destination’s appeal.

A “beach-and-island star”

The Q3 2026 Traveloka SEA Index places Phu Quoc first among five destinations newly appearing in its regional rankings, ahead of Hangzhou, London, Nagoya and Paris. Notably, the island outperformed the market benchmark in all five Southeast Asian markets tracked by the platform: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The results show that Phu Quoc’s appeal is spreading across several markets simultaneously. Describing the island as “Vietnam’s beach and island star”, Traveloka notes that Phu Quoc is quickly becoming a regional favourite as it prepares to host APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2027.

Phu Quoc also stands out in individual markets, topping the list of fastest-growing international destinations among Indonesian travellers, featuring among the destinations showing strong growth with Malaysian travellers, and ranking among the five fastest-growing domestic destinations for Vietnamese travellers. In its analysis of Thai travellers’ search trends, Traveloka even asks whether Koh Chang could become “the next Phu Quoc”, using the Vietnamese island as a reference point for an emerging beach destination.

These findings from Traveloka come as Phu Quoc continues to earn high marks from international readers. In the US edition of Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, the island topped the list of Asian islands with a score of 95.26, marking its fifth consecutive appearance. In the UK edition, Phu Quoc scored 98.26, ranking second in Asia and recording the second-highest score when compared across the island lists worldwide.

Diverse experiences build momentum as APEC infrastructure opens new opportunities

Phu Quoc’s appeal is underpinned by its connectivity and an increasingly comprehensive tourism offering. Visa-free stays of up to 30 days, subject to applicable regulations, make it easier for international visitors to travel to the island, while the arrival of Sun PhuQuoc Airways adds an aviation link to the tourism, resort and entertainment ecosystem developed by Sun Group on the Pearl Island.

In southern Phu Quoc, visitors can spend the day taking the overwater cable car to Sun World Hon Thom, exploring Aquatopia Water Park, trying the thrill rides at Exotica Village or relaxing at Santo Beach Club. Back in Sunset Town, the journey continues with sunset views by Kiss Bridge, dinner at Sun Bavaria GastroPub and shows staged over the sea.

Kiss of the Sea combines multimedia technology with live performance and fireworks, while Symphony of the Sea brings laser displays and exhilarating jet ski and flyboard performances to the water. Expected to return in November, the third season of Symphony of the Sea will expand its stage from 70 metres to 200 metres and feature three times as many fireworks as the previous season. Together with accommodation from brands such as Marriott, Hilton and New World in the south of the island, these experiences give visitors more reasons to extend their stays and spend on a wider range of services.

Building on this foundation, hosting APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2027 is propelling Phu Quoc into a phase of large-scale infrastructure investment. The expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport, development of the APEC Convention and Exhibition Centre and the APEC Multipurpose Theatre, and improvements to key transport routes are progressing in parallel to strengthen connectivity, increase visitor capacity and enhance the island’s ability to host international events.

The benefits of these projects will extend beyond APEC. The expanded airport will create room for new air routes, while the convention and exhibition centre and the APEC Multipurpose Theatre will provide additional venues for major events, arts programmes and large corporate groups. Linked to the existing network of hotels, restaurants and entertainment attractions, the new infrastructure will create further opportunities for MICE tourism and itineraries combining business with leisure.

The appeal highlighted by Traveloka shows that Phu Quoc is gathering momentum ahead of APEC 2027. With an increasingly diverse range of experiences and coordinated infrastructure investment, Vietnam’s “beach-and-island star” has a stronger foundation for sustaining growth and expanding its standing on the regional tourism map.
